Box of Rocks

I may have posted this before, but it is my favorite contraption.  It is the box of rocks that was the counter-weight for the old garage door.   They are connected by a rope that goes over pullies.  Dick built this new box, because the old one, that was there when we bought the house, fell apart.  I took this picture the day the Overhead Door guy came to put in a new door.  I was disappointed that he couldn't incorporate the box of rocks into the new door.  There is a much larger box in the church tower that ran the clock before it was electrified.  Have I already told you all this?

  1. I will have to mention this to Clark Whitney. It must have been there when his parents owned your house.Very interesting. In our livingroom, we had the old windows that were hooked to weights by clothesline to open and shut. Very unhandy but neat.

  2. Very interesting to invent a garage door opener with a box of rocks.

With the windows all of a sudden you'd hear a clunk. You know you will have to prop the window open from now on because the cord has broke.
    We had them here.
