Row of Rails

This row of firewood is set in the orchard, ready to light if there is danger of frost.  I would have cut out John D.'s unflattering picture, if I knew how.  This was at the home of the author of The Yearling, Marjorie Kennan Rawlings.

  1. Is that a common sight of logs or such ready for frost?
I take it these are in FL?

  2. That little bit of fire here and there would keep the frost at bay? Or maybe they load it up as needed.

  3. Yes, it's in Florida. This was a museum house/park. There were smudge pots at the time the author lived here, but they were very expensive, so she used fires. There was a danger of frost that week, and the park people do things the way that she did.
