Historic Handwriting

Dick was doing some searching for info on a relative of his mother, who was stationed at Sackets Harbor during the war of 1812. This is a letter he found that mentioned him, Major Samuel Nye. It is signed by "Josiah Wilkins Clark no Longer of the N.E. Artillery Company." We are having trouble reading some of it. It looks like Major Nye had such influence over a certain committee that Joseph E. Smith did not get a promotion that he wanted. I'm not going to share this with my neighbors, Marilyn and Hale Smith.

  1. This would be the perfect time to show them the letter and they could take it as they wanted. Quite a find.
